Mining operations continued at the Ludlow mine site with HMC production above budget for the quarter. Operations at Tutunup, which were completed during the third quarter 2005, were restricted to rehabilitation and dismantling of infrastructure in preparation for relocation to the new Tutunup South Mine. Final agreements and approvals were received in December 2005 for the Tutunup South Mine. Infrastructure development commenced late in the quarter and commissioning is scheduled to commence in March 2006. Approval for the Gwindinup Mine development was received from the Minister for the Environment towards the end of the quarter. The six-year plus project will come on line when operations are completed at Ludlow during 2007. In other areas, rehabilitation activities were accelerated during the spring and summer seasons. The North Shore mineral separation plant MSP ; continued to process HMC from both Tutunup and Ludlow sites. Toll treatment of external client material continued during the quarter.

Materials and methods: A total of 21 women with a simple pregnancy after oocyte donation entered the study: 13 were included in the group of patients aged 40 years and eight in the group aged 40 years. Patients underwent TCD scans and serum measurements of oestradiol, progesterone and p-HCG weekly, up to the end of the first trimester. Results: The number of oocytes donated, the number of embryos replaced and fertilization and implantation rates were similar in both groups. There was no difference between younger and older patients in terms of serum oestradiol, progesterone and P-HCG concentrations. There was no difference between both groups of patients with regard to the flow indices analysed. However, a trend could be observed towards a decrease in the resistance index from weeks 7 to 8 women aged 40 years, while the same index decreased in week 9 to 10 patients aged 40 years. Conclusions: Data show that vascular resistance to flow is similar in both groups of pregnant patients, and that the changes observed in vascular impedance are the consequence, and not the cause, of some phenomena occurring in older uteri that require further investigation.

Caution should be used in patients with Prinzmetal angina. SECTRAL may increase the number and duration of angina attacks in patients with Printzmetal's angina due to unopposed alphareceptor mediated coronary artery vasoconstriction. Therefore, SECTRAL should be used in these patients with the utmost care. Cardiac Failure Special caution should be exercised when administering SECTRAL acebutolol hydrochloride ; to patients with a history of heart failure. Sympathetic stimulation is a vital component supporting circulatory function in congestive heart failure, and inhibition with -blockade always carries the potential hazard of further depressing myocardial contractibility and precipitating cardiac failure. SECTRAL acts selectively without abolishing the inotropic action of digitalis on the heart muscle. However, the positive inotropic action of digitalis may be reduced by the negative inotropic effect of acebutolol hydrochloride when the two drugs are used concomitantly. The effects of -blockers and digitalis are additive in depressing A-V conduction. In patients without a history of cardiac failure, continued depression of myocardium over a period of time can, in some cases, lead to cardiac failure. Therefore, at the first sign or symptom of impending cardiac failure, patients should be fully digitalised and or given a diuretic and the response observed closely. If cardiac failure continues despite adequate digitalisation and diuretic therapy, SECTRAL therapy should be immediately withdrawn. Abrupt cessation of therapy with SECTRAL Patients with angina or ischaemic heart disease should be warned against abrupt discontinuation of SECTRAL. There have been reports of severe exacerbation of angina, and of myocardial infarction or ventricular arrhythmias occurring in patients with angina pectoris, following abrupt discontinuation of -blocker therapy. The last two complications may occur with or without preceding exacerbation of angina pectoris. Therefore, when discontinuation of SECTRAL is planned in patients with angina pectoris, the dosage should be gradually reduced over a period of about two weeks and the patient should be carefully observed. The same frequency of administration should be maintained. In situations of greater urgency, acebutolol hydrochloride therapy should be discontinued stepwise and under conditions of closer observation. If angina markedly worsens or acute coronary insufficiency develops, it is recommended that treatment with SECTRAL be reinstituted promptly, at least temporarily see DRUG INTERACTIONS ; . Central Nervous Sytem The low lipid solubility and lack of accumulation in CNS tissues of acebutolol and its active metabolite reduce the likelihood of sleep disturbances, depression or other central effects and such occurrences are rare.

1: 07PM ON.00005 Numerical study of Taylor-Couette flow with a porous inner cylinder , SEMMA EL ALAMI, Hassan I University, Morocco, KARIM BOUROUNI, El Manar University, Tunisia, ERIC SERRE, MSNM-GP CNRS, France, RICHARD LUEPTOW, Northwestern University, USA -- During the operation of a rotating filter consisting of a porous rotating inner cylinder and a non-porous outer cylinder, the Taylor vortices generated between the two coaxial cylinders are altered. The numerical study of this kind of filtration process requires the development of rigorous and robust numerical model which takes account of the interaction between the fluid and the porous medium of the membrane filter. In this work, the effect of permeability on TaylorCouette flow with rotating inner wall and an imposed axial flow is investigated radius ratio of 0.85 and length-to-gap ratio of 16 ; . The thickness of porous medium may be variable into the gap between the cylinders. The results show a strong dependence of the flow structure with the permeability of the porous medium. We distinguish two regimes: one is characterized by a linear evolution of the critical Taylor with permeability; the second one is a transition to a horizontal branch for Ta 1350. This change affects significantly the mass transfer at the outlet of the membrane. 1: 20PM ON.00006 Quasiperiodic flow in an axially forced Taylor-Couette system , MARC AVILA, FRANCISCO MARQUES, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, JUAN M. LOPEZ, Arizona State University, ALVARO MESEGUER, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya -- Time-periodic forcing of hydrodynamic systems can be used as a mechanism to delay transition to secondary flows. However, parametric resonance may occur when the forcing excites some natural frequency of the system, leading to NeimarkSacker bifurcations which can give rise to more complex flows or even turbulence. Therefore, there is a tradeoff between enhancing stability and catastrophic transition. Periodic axial motion of the inner cylinder can be used in the TaylorCouette system to delay the onset of Taylor vortices. Although this mechanism is very efficient, for low frequencies of the forcing NeimarkSacker bifurcations occur, so that the transition is to non-axisymmetric vortices featuring a new natural frequency Marques & Lopez ; . In this work we study the complex flows arising in the neighbourhood of these bifurcations, including quasiperiodic motion as well as regions of frequency locking. The results will be compared with the recent experiments by Sinha et al and acitretin. TABLE 2. Side Effects of Treatment with Placebo, * Acebutolol and Propranolol.

Cashew nuts are a high value confectionery nut. They retail in Uganda at about sh8, 000 a kilogramme. As an export, they are priced at an average of 140% more than that in the European snack food industry. Nearly all cashew nuts sold in Uganda are imported from Tanzania. Some originate in India and are reexported from Kenya. At recent meetings of Uganda's Food and Drink Association FABASU ; , members have been saying it was about time Uganda's own cashew nuts were available in Kampala. FABASU secretary Craddock Williams contacted the Farmer's Federation Coordinator in Soroti, Peter Ejoku. Williams learned that farmers in Soroti do not bother to harvest the many cashew nut trees that grow in the district because they have never been told of how to market the crop, and a cashew nut procession factory they were promised never materialised. The farmers reverted to growing food crops. They sell surplus millet and sorghum to Kampala wholesalers. Cashew nut trees have even been cut down and used for firewood! Cashew grows in many parts of northern Uganda. It is not difficult to harvest although the trees can grow like mango to more than 20 metres high. The nut or seed grows inside a tough pericarp or husk, which villagers remove by heating them over a fire, and then cutting or breaking off the husk with a stone. The nut can be eaten raw or roasted, and has a sweet taste, much used in many Indian and Chinese recipes. Ejoku brought 2 kgs of un-husked cashew to Kampala, which a farmer had picked for him at a labour charge of sh2, 500 a kilogramme. De-husking is quite labour intensive, but Ejoku said it takes a practiced hand only about 30 minutes to heat and de-husk one kilo of cashew. The process can be industrialised, that and actimmune. Smoking cessation services show good return on investment Editor--As Raw et al state, many people around the world have been watching the United Kingdom's smoking cessation services with admiration.1 We have seen clear evidence from research trials that treatment of tobacco dependence works and is highly cost effective, but the United Kingdom is the first country to try to implement treatment services nationwide. Some might have queried whether sufficient numbers would attend these new services and whether the success rates would be similar to those achieved in research centres. But 127 000 people making an attempt at quitting and 48% achieving short term abstinence is a remarkable achievement in one year. The resultant cost 800 per life year saved ; represents excellent value for money by any standards.2 In the United States, where much health care is paid for by private health insurance, health insurance companies look for a positive return on their investment in paying for services--that is, they look for cost savings later for dollars invested in treatment now. Treating tobacco dependence produces a strong return on investment by reducing substantially the high costs of treating myocardial infarctions, cancers, premature births, and chronic respiratory diseases caused by smoking.3 Other positive effects of smoking cessation services include reducing employees' time off work and reducing the number of young people taking up smoking as a result of copying their parents. Health insurance companies in states such as Utah, California, and Minnesota have realised that treatments with a high return on. SUMMARY The effects on ventricular arrhythmia of acebutolol were compared with those of propranolol in 31 patients who averaged more than 30 ventricular premature complexes VPCs ; per hour during 72 hours of ambulatory ECG recording during a placebo-controlled baseline period. The study consisted of an initial 2week placebo-controlled baseline period followed by two 6-week double-blind treatment periods consisting of incremental dose-titration, maintenance and dose-tapering schedules. The treatment during the double-blind period was randomized to either oral acebutolol or propranolol given three times daily. Twenty-four-hour ambulatory ECGs and maximal symptom-limited ; treadmill exercise tests were performed after 1 and 5 weeks of treatment with either acebutolol 1587 397 mg day ; or propranolol 202 63 mg day ; in each patient. The effects of acebutolol and propranolol on the frequency and grade of ventricular arrhythmia during rest and exercise were compared. Acebutolol and propranolol produced comparable levels of adrenergic blockade, as reflected by significant reductions in the mean heart rate during 24-hour ambulatory recording 16% and 18%, respectively ; and peak exercise 25% and 24%, respectively ; compared with placebo p 0.01 ; . Acebutolol and propranolol produced comparable and significant reductions in the VPC frequency during ambulatory ECG recordings 52% and 47%, respectively ; and exercise testing 51% and 69%, respectively ; compared with placebo p 0.001 ; . Each agent produced comparable and significant reductions in the mean VPC grade compared with placebo using a modified Lown classification ; during ambulatory ECG recordings; the approximate reduction was one grade p 0.001 ; . During exercise testing, acebutolol reduced the VPC grade significantly compared with placebo p 0.01 propranolol also reduced the VPC grade, but not significantly. No clinical or laboratory side effects of either agent necessitated drug discontinuance. Acebutolol is a well-tolerated , B-blocking agent that compares favorably to propranolol in reducing the frequency and complexity of VPCs at rest and during maximal exercise. The ventricular antiarrhythmic effects of acebutolol are comparable to those of propranolol. Hence, acebutolol represents an important therapeutic addition to f-adrenergic blocking agents and agenerase. Deputy in regard to the issues raised. The Deputy will be aware however of the substantial increases in health service staffing over recent years in line with service developments. Further information is given in the following paragraph on overall increases and in regard to increases in numbers of key personnel. My Department's health service employment census encompasses staff employed by the Health Service Executive, the voluntary hospitals and some intellectual disability agencies. The health service employment census shows a total of 101, 513 wholetime equivalent staff, excluding home helps, at end September 2005. This compares with a total of 81, 513 at end December 2000 and represents an increase of 20, 000 or 24.5%. There has been an increase of 1, 511 or 26.5% in medical and dental personnel, an increase of 5, 701 or 19.5% in nursing personnel and an increase of 6, 052 or 79.4% in health and social care personnel over end-2000 figures. Cancer Incidence. 340. Mr. Durkan asked the Tanaiste and Minister for Health and Children if studies have been carried out on the incidence of the various forms of cancer here; if this indicates any particular trend in any area; if the cause or causes of such trends have been examined; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3263 06] Tanaiste and Minister for Health and Children Ms Harney ; : The National Cancer Registry has routinely collected data on county of residence for all incidences of cancer since 1994. These data have been published in a number of reports, including Cancer in Ireland 1994-2000 and two all-Ireland cancer reports All-Ireland Cancer Statistics 1994-1996 and All-Ireland Cancer Statistics 1998-2000. Up-to-date tables describing cancer incidence by site, sex and county of residence are also available to the public on the registry website, ncri.ie. In addition to this routine analysis, the registry has carried out a number of analyses of cancer incidence for single counties in response to specific local issues. The most recent detailed analysis of the relationship between cancer incidence and county of residence was carried out for the second allIreland cancer report, for the period 1998 to 2000, which was published in 2004. While this report showed some relationship between region of residence and cancer incidence, there were a few instances where this relationship could be shown at county level. In general, the number of cancer cases diagnosed at county level were too few, and the variation in incidence between counties too small, for any meaningful conclusions to be drawn. The only clear exception to this was for lung cancer, where incidence and mortality were significantly higher in Dublin than elsewhere. This variation in lung cancer incidence between urban and rural settings was also found in Belfast. Catbeadart aspects of acebutolol acebutolol of acebutolol they invariably end. It is also important to emphasise that the relationship between athletes and sports medicine practitioners goes beyond the treatment of sports injuries for, as the definition of sports medicine adopted by the British Medical Association 1996: 4 ; indicates, sports medicine is concerned not just with the 'prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of exercise related illnesses and injuries' but also with the 'maximization of performance'. Moreover, as the rewards associated with winning have increased, so the role of sports medicine practitioners in maximizing performance has also become more important. One consequence of this growing concern of sports physicians with the maximization of performance Hoberman, 1992 ; has been to make top-class athletes more and more dependent on increasingly sophisticated systems of medical support in their efforts to run faster, to jump further or to compete more effectively in their chosen sport; indeed, at the highest levels, the quality of medical support may make the difference between success and failure. Brown and Benner 1984: 32 ; for example, have pointed out that, as increased importance has been placed on winning, so athletes.
