Polysaccharide. Methods: 217 individuals aged 70 years without prior pneumococcal immunization were equally randomized in an open label study to receive either 7vPnC Prevnar 2g saccharide dose, except 4g for 6B, Wyeth ; , or 23vPS Pneumovax23, 25g saccharide dose, Aventis Pasteur MSD ; . One year later, 7vPnC recipients received 23vPS and 23vPS recipients received 7vPnC. Blood samples were obtained prior to and one month post vaccination. Antibody responses GMCs ; were measured by ELISA. Results: After initial 7vPnC, GMCs of all serotypes, except 19F non-inferior ; , were superior to initial 23vPS. 7vPnC 23vPS recipients had higher GMCs point estimates ; compared to 23vPS alone. 23vPS 7vPnC recipients had lower GMCs compared to 7vPnC alone. Pneumococcal ELISA GMCs g ml ; with 95% CI, All Available Immunogenicity Population. Or vinca alkaloids [3]. Investigators at the MD Anderson Hospital tested the combination of cisplatin, adriamycin and cyclophosphamide, the so-called PAC regimen, in 87 patients with measurable disease achieving a 45% overall response rate with a median duration of 4.5 months and considerable gastrointestinal, renal and hematological toxicity [13]. No difference was observed between locally advanced and recurrent cases. These results have been confirmed in a smaller trial by Dunton et al. which achieved a 46% overall response rate in a series of 22 patients [14]. A higher response rate has been reported by Piver et al. with the combination of cisplatin, adriamycin and etoposide plus megestrol acetate in a series of 20 patients with metastatic endometrial adenocarcinoma [15]. The Gynecologic Oncology Group carried out a phase III trial comparing single-agent doxorubicin with combination chemotherapy with doxorubicin plus cisplatin [16]. This trial showed polychemotherapy was superior to monochemotherapy at least in terms of objective response rate 45% vs. 27% ; . Interesting results have been recently achieved with paclitaxel, which has been reported to yield a 34% overall response rate when employed as single agent [17], and a singificant 63% response rate when used in combination with carboplatin [18]. Vinorelbine VNR ; , a new semisynthetic derivative of vinblastine 5'-nor-anydrovinblastine ; had been demonstrated to be active as single agent against advanced breast carcinoma [19, 20], bronchial adenocarcinoma [19, 21, 22], squamous cell lung [21, 22], and head neck carcinomas [23-25]. In these neoplastic diseases VNR has also been employed at a dose of 25 mg m 2 week in combination with CDDP with interesting results. Recently it has been shown to be active in squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix where it has been shown to induce a 21% overall response rate in a small series of patients recurrent after radiotherapy [26]. The relevant activity of VNR in squamous-cell carcinomas other than endometrial, prompted us to test this vinca alkaloid in combination with CDDP. In this paper we report the results of phase II trial of the combination of CDDP + VNR as first line treatment for recurrent and or metastatic EAC. Progestins: megestrol acetate megace ; and medroxyprogestrone acetate are the progestins most widely used to treat advanced breast cancer.

Any species of helminth have been reported as causing infections in humans in Indonesia; however, only some of these species are highly prevalent and widely distributed. Of the nematode infections, both soil-transmitted helminthiasis and lymphatic filariasis are public health problems in the country. Among the trematodes, Schistosoma japonicum is present in areas of Sulawesi and Fasciolopsis buski in Kalimantan, while the cestodes Taenia saginata and T. solium are found in several provinces.

Nine of the 18 patients were found to have antibody to both diphtheria toxin and DAB4861L-2by the end of the study period. Three patients entered the study with detectable antibody titers to IL-2 and two additional patients acquired anti-IL-2 antibodies after one course coincident with antidiphtheria toxin and anti-DAE34861L-2 antibodies. The presence of antidiphtheria toxin antibodies might be expected to influence clearance. We had the opportunity to examine this question in a single patient 12 ; who achieved a PR after receiving three courses of DABa61L-2. After the first dose of the fourth course, the patient received intravenous Ig Sandoglobulin; Sandoz Corp, Hanover, NJ ; Containing antidiphtheria toxin antibodies. The patient had no detectable antidiphtheria toxin antibodies before the administration of the Ig, but had a titer of 1: 25 afterward. Clearance of DAB4 * , IL-2 on day 1 without antibodies ; , and day 2 with antibodies ; is depicted in Fig 3. In contrast to what might have been predicted, the peak serum level was higher and the clearance was not enhanced when DAB4861L-2 was administered in the presence of antibodies. Most importantly, the administration of antidiphtheria toxin antibody had no effect on the toxicity profile or pattern of response. This experience in a single patient was further supported by the observation that two patients achieved a PR in the presence of antibodies to diphtheria toxin and DAB4861L-2 Table 5 and meprobamate. Dyckerhoff Flowstone marked the development of a self-compacting, highly solid, special mortar range with exceptional flowing characteristics. These properties facilitate the manufacture of thin-walled concrete block products, concrete goods and prefabricated concrete elements that make an economically viable, free and aesthetically demanding design possible. Deuna Compact is a premixed building material made of special cement, selected additional materials and additives for flowing concrete. The composition of Deuna Compact is aligned with the requirements of the industrial manufacture of concrete building elements and thus enables our customers to employ more rational manufacturing processes. With Sopro Saphir-Perlfuge, a new generation of jointing mortars was developed. While conventional jointing mortar tends to absorb moisture, Sopro Saphir-Perlfuge has a water and dirt-repelling pearl effect that helps keep the joints of ceramic surfaces clean and dry and metamucil. The establishment of Central Asian Network of Environmental Journalists supported through UNESCO IPDC assistance. The training of media professionals remains a vital need. Promoting journalism essentially as a discipline of verification continues to be a main training concern in many developing countries. The lack of general background knowledge, including that of civic education and sustainable development among journalists in many developing countries demands a holistic approach to journalism education. Overall, the training for journalists and media professionals should become a part of a strategic initiative to increase the investigative capacity of media. In view of the above UNESCO's strategic approach to media training in developing countries could consist of the following: a ; enhancing delivery capacities of training institutions; b ; setting quality criteria for media training; c ; supporting production of training module on general and civic education for journalists; d ; supporting quality online journalism training initiatives to cater to a larger audience; e ; development of model curricula for journalism education at undergraduate levels. To evaluate the competence of the cellular immune system. With many immunomodulatory drugs in development, there is an increased need to provide a reliable DTH model that can be applied in preclinical testing on nonhuman primates. To date, a well characterized DTH model in nonhuman primates has been lacking. A series of studies were conducted to develop an assay that comprised characteristics of the classic DTH response in rhesus monkeys, utilizing a combination of clinical signs, histologic findings, and immunohistochemistry, and to compare these measurements in the absence or presence of a known immunosuppressant compound. Six male rhesus monkeys 3 Group ; previously sensitized with BCG Mycobacterium bovis-Bacillus Calmette-Gurin ; were challenged with Old Tuberculin OT to evaluate effects of immunosuppression, the DTH response was compared in animals that had received Dexamethasone or saline prior to OT challenge. In assay development experiments, all animals had measurable indurations greater than 3 mm in diameter at either 24, 48 or 72 hours post challenge. The DTH reaction was characterized by inflammatory cell infiltrates predominantly CD4 + and CD8 + lymphocytes and CD68 + macrophages ; surrounding most small blood vessels in the superficial and deep dermis and in the underlying subcutaneous tissue, most notable at 48 hours after OT administration. The concurrent administration of Dexamethasone resulted in a reduction in size of indurations and an overall decrease in perivascular cellular infiltrates decrease in CD4 + and CD8 + lymphocytes and an absence of CD68 + macrophages ; . BCG administration to rhesus monkeys followed by OT challenge provided a consistent assay methodology for evaluation of the DTH response in drug development.

While U N R has been performing its educational tasks for over thirty years, it has done so despite serious difficulties. Neither the political environment of the region in which the Palestine refugee population is concentrated nor the relations between the states of the region are really conducive to the transmission of learning normally obtained in 'stable' societies. Equally important, U N R W international agency whose mandate was established by the United Nations. T h u its budget and other resources are directly dependent on the attitude of the international community to the Palestine question. Even with its appropriated financial resources, quite clearly U N R constantly faces serious crisis. In recent years, the heavy financial demands on U N meagre budget threatened its viability; only the financial support generated from the oil-producing states averted what could have been a major and perhaps crippling crisis. Whether as an educational enterprise or as an educational effort interrelated with the politics of a national community that is highly active in its attempt to retrieve its national sovereignty or as an educational enterprise that is affected by sometimes conflicting jurisdictions of various states and by international politics, the U N R system should have c o m the attention of a host of scholars. Yet it is quite surprising that not a single comprehensive study ofthat system of education has appeared in any language. Aspects of the educational experience of the U N R system have been dealt with either in separate articles or in chapters in books that dealt with the whole question of either the Palestine refugees or U N whole. One consultation workshop organized by VCCI in March 2002, but the text on private sector development in the CPRGS appears to be from the Ten-Year Socio-Economic Development Strategy SEDS ; . This document reflected various private sector consultations that took place prior to the PRSP process and within the framework of SEDS. There are a number of factors that explain the somewhat limited participation of civil society, including the private sector. The most important constraint was the time frame that was set for the PRSP documents, particularly the CPRGS, which was formally launched slightly more than a year after the I-PRSP was approved in March 2001. The first draft was available for comments in January 2002, and the PRSP was finalised in May 2002. Given the large number of stakeholders within and outside of the government, this was quite a short time period. If in the future, additional community-based poverty-related policy consultations are to be undertaken, they should aim to have a better coverage of the poor. Moreover, a substantial increase in funding would be necessary, as well as an expanded timeframe for the hosting of the consultations.73 On the positive side, the active and effective participation of international NGOs, both in shaping the CPRGS and in facilitating consultations with the poor, is largely explained by their good standing with the Government of Viet Nam and by their strategy of proactive advocacy activities. In contrast, the weak and passive participation of local NGOs is explained by the lack of a vibrant local civil society with strong policy analysis skills. Some progress was made, however. A number of local NGOs are familiar with PPA-type skills and techniques and have used these in their grassroots projects. In order to ensure that the PRSP is truly nationally owned and implemented, in the broad sense of including organisations and people from outside the government, the government and international agencies should assist local NGOs in increasing their role in facilitating consultations with poor people at the grassroots level on policy. Appeared to increase the hazard of death in some diseases CML ; but not others acute leukemia this may be due to the competing risks of relapse and non-infectious mortality, both of which are higher in patients with acute leukemia. Indeed, Ljungman and colleagues suggest that by adjusting for disease state rather than examining disease groups separately ; , the NMDP study may have missed this interaction between CMV serostatus and disease . Other subgroups of interest the influence of T-cell depletion or mismatched transplants, for example ; did not appear to have been specifically analyzed in the context of donor serostatus in the NMDP study. Residual confounding may also explain some of the results, given that increasing donor age the primary predictor of poor outcome in that study ; was associated with increasing CMV seropositivity. Finally, by including a significant number of patients from the pre-ganciclovir era 20% ; , the NMDP study may have also attenuated the true relationship between donor serostatus and outcome. Results were adjusted for time periods in both studies.
