Information contained in those abstracts may not be released until the abstracts appear on the ACR Web site. Academic institutions, private organizations, and companies with products whose value may be influenced by information contained in an abstract may issue a press release to coincide with the availability of an ACR abstract on the ACR Web site. However, the ACR continues to require that information that goes beyond that contained in the abstract, e.g., discussion of the abstract done as part of a scientific presentation or presentation of additional new information that will be available at the time of the meeting, is under embargo until 5: 30 Eastern Time on Saturday, November 11. Violation of this policy may result in the abstract being withdrawn from the meeting and other measures deemed appropriate. It is not considered a violation of this policy if the information contained in the abstract is presented at another meeting, if acceptance is still pending at the time of the abstract submission deadline, or if the abstract is published in a peer reviewed journal after the abstract submission deadline. Authors are responsible for notifying financial and other sponsors about this policy. The two exceptions to this embargo policy are that the abstracts presented at the ACR Basic Research Conference and the ACR Clinical Research Conference are under embargo until 8: 00 Eastern Time on Friday, November 10. This effect is completely blocked in the cell treated by 3.0 mM ouabain Figure 4B ; . It seems clear that progressive increases in outward current occur when the Na + pump is blocked, whether by K' deprivation or the presence of ouabain. If the outward current was due largely to Na + pumping, it should have been blocked in the presence of ouabain rather than continuing to increase as observed. On the contrary, it is when the pump is reactivated that outward current disappears. From this we conclude that outward current is dependent on intracellular Na + and increases because intracellular Na + increases. When the Na + pump is reactivated by K' intracellular Na + is reduced and outward current diminishes. Taken together with the observed Ca2' dependence of this current and the conclusion that most of the current is unlikely to reflect electrogenic Na + pumping, we conclude that this current is outward Na-Ca exchange current. We also suggest that the progressive increase in this current is due to continual Na + accumulation as a result of Na + pump blockade. This process is doubtless slowed by the buffering effect of the electrode.17 This.
LOB T females eventually develop mild obesity much later than males [change in weight wt ; between 280 480 d: T females, 112 8 g; NT females, 88 5 g; P 0.04]. To explore this sexual dimorphism, groups of younger female LOB T and NT rats were Ovx or sham-operated at 10 wk of age, and their body weights were recorded Fig. 3A ; . At this age, the LOB T rats were smaller and shorter than NT animals 15 ; , and this difference was maintained, with both sham-operated groups gaining the same amount of weight over the following 11 wk wt: LOB T, 45.5 5.3 g; NT, 48.4 3.8 g; P NS ; . A care plan refers to the documentation of the proposed action to be taken to provide for a child's or a young person's care or protection21. It defines: the action to be taken to provide the care and support necessary to sustain the safety, welfare and well-being of the child, young person and family the sequence of such action the agencies or practitioners responsible and the processes for review. Under the 1998 Act designated agencies will now on a annual basis have to submit Case Plans for each child and young person reflecting changes in their lives section 156 ; . These plans are required to include how the needs of children and young people are to be met and has particular implications in addressing the extra needs for children and young people who have a disability. The Plans will also need to show how children.

Background and Objectives. The objective of this study was to investigate the expression of MDR1 and bcl-2 proteins in de novo acute myeloid leukemia AML ; . Design and Methods. The expression of MDR1 and bcl-2 was analyzed by flow cytometry in a large series of 256 consecutive cases of AML. The results were recorded as percentage of positivity and relative mean fluorescence intensity rMFI ; . To determine individual protein levels, an index which equals the product of the percentage of positive cells and rMFI was generated. Results. Using cut-offs of 800 and 300 of the index value for bcl-2 and MDR1 expression, respectively, we identified 4 different classes of AML: 1 ; double negative; 2 ; single positive bcl-2 + MDR1-; 3 ; single positive bcl-2- MDR1 + ; 4 ; double positive. The highest incidence of double negative cases was observed in the M2 class whereas double positive cases occurred more frequently in the M4, M5 and M6 subgroups. Seventy-eight percent and 71% of M0 and M1, respectively, showed single positive bcl-2 + MDR1- expression p 0.00001 ; . Twenty-eight percent of patients belonging to the double positive category achieved complete remission, whereas for double negative, single positive bcl2 + MDR1- and single positive bcl-2- MDR1 + category, the complete remission rate was 69%, 52% and 56%, respectively p 0.00038 ; . In multivariate analysis, the double positive status independently affected frequency of complete remission p 0.008. They after they were sent of the holy ghost, came unto Seleutia, and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. And when they were come to Solamine, they showed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jewes. And they had John to their minister. When they had gone throughout the Isle unto the city of Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet which was a Jewe, named * Barjesu, was with the ruler of the country, one Sergius Paulus a prudent man. The same ruler called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. But elymas the sorcerer for so was his name by interpretation ; stood them, and sought to turn away the ruler from the faith. Then Saul which also is called Paul being full of the holy ghost set his eyes on him, O full of all subtlety and deceitfulness, and child of the devil, and the enemy of all righteousness, thou ceasest not to pervert the straight ways of the Lord. And now behold the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind and not see the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and darkness, and he went about seeking them that should lead him by the hand. Then the ruler when he saw what had happened, believed, and wondered at the doctrine of the Lord. When they that were with Paul, were departed by ship from Paphus, they came to Perga a city of Pamphilia: and there John departed from them, and returned to Jerusalem. But they wandered through the countries from Perga to Antioch a city of the country of Pisidia, and went in to the synagog on the Saboth day and sat down. And after the law and the Prophets were read, the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them saying. Ye men and brethren, if ye have any sermon to exhort the people, say on. Then Paul stood up and beckoned with the hand, and said: Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with a mighty arm brought them out of it, and about the time of forty years, suffered he their manners in the wilderness. And he destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, and divided their land to them by lot. And afterward he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years unto the time of Samuel the Prophet. And after that, they desired a king, and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years. And after he had put him down, he set up David to be their king, of whom he reported saying: I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, he shall fulfil all my will!

In the C terminal part. By selection from a pool of TP variants with random mutations we could isolate several TP variants, harboring fewer hydrophobic residues in this region, as monodispersely soluble proteins J. Beck and M. Nassal, unpublished data ; . Interestingly, the same region was recently implicated to contain a molecular contact site, possibly for the RT domain[104], as suggested by the ability of separate TP and RT RH domains to trans-complement each other [53, 95, 105] . Since replacing several conserved hydrophobic regions at a time may affect TP function the challenge will be to find, for crystallization, mutants that combine solubility with functional activity. However, being at the heart of hepadnaviral replication, solving the structure of TP is one of the big current challenges.

Measures described in other issues of Digestive Health Matters. While acid reducing drugs such as the H2 blocking agents e.g., ranitidine, famotidine, cimetidine, nizatidine ; and proton pump inhibitors e.g., omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, pantoprazole ; are helpful, they only reduce the acidity of the refluxed material. Budapest, Hungary - Imagine you are unable to identify how you are feeling. To cope with various stresses and calm yourself, it is very important to identify your feeling e.g. `I'm angry ; and know why you are feeling so e.g., because I'm insulted ; . But some people can't identify their own minds. `Alexithymia' is a coined term a: non, lexis: word, thymos: emotion ; proposed in patients with psychosomatic disorders by P.E.Sifneos in 1970s. This concept includes the tendency to be poor at identifying, realizing and expressing one's own feeling and the less fertility of fancy and imagination. Meanwhile, alexithymia is reportedly associated with autism, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and psychopath. These disorders have common characteristics i.e., such patients are impaired to understand or empathize with other's minds. There may be a certain association between knowing "self's "mind and "other's" mind. Now that we think about it, a person who can't realize one's own mind may lack empathy. The present study has shown that individuals with alexithymia have lower empathy to other's pain, especially in its cognitive aspects, using functional neuroimaging technique. These are the conclusions drawn from a study by Yoshiya Moriguchi, M.D., and his colleagues, at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, Japan, to be presented at the American Psychosomatic Society's Annual Meeting, held March 7-10 in Budapest, Hungary. The researchers showed participants with and without alexithymia the pictures of human limbs under a painful situation, which had been validated in an earlier study. All situations depicted familiar events that can happen in everyday life. Various types of pain mechanical, thermal and pressure ; were represented e.g., a finger piggies accidentally pinched with doors, finger nearly cut with a kitchen knife, etc. ; . Then the participants scored how those pictures were painful. These series of task were conducted under scanning by functional magnetic resonance imaging fMRI ; . Interestingly brains of the participants had been activated by the painful pictures as if they had real pain in their body even without any actual pain stimuli ; . Comparisons between two groups with without alexithymia ; showed alexithymia group scored lower on pain scoring, and some important parts of pain network in their brains were more inactivated dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, brainstem, and cerebellum ; . Taken together, the results suggest that the impaired cognitive, particularly executive regulatory aspects of empathy could be a part of the core deficit in alexithymia, which is associated with impaired emotional regulation and also highlights the importance of self-awareness in empathy. This raises the possibility that alexithymia is not a `lack of emotion' but `deficit to recognize one's own emotions'. Nizatidine side effects cannot be anticipated. My exposure to this field during postdoctoral association with Prof J D Roberts at Caltech has left an indelible lifelong imprint on my activities. Highly successful applications of NMR spectroscopy were made in association with Prof H Schmid and Dr W von Philipsborn at Zurich University in the structural elucidation of the Kopsia alkaloids and their rearrangement products. For quite a few years after work started at the Ciba Research Centre, a Varian A-60 proton NMR spectrometer was the `owner's pride and neighbour's envy'! Much later a low resolution mass spectrometer and a 90 MHz Bruker 1H 13C NMR spectrometer were added to strengthen the Centre's capabilities. Compared to the facilities available in most academic and industrial laboratories today, this instrumentation would look primitive but quite a good mileage could be obtained from them. In collaboration with Dr S Rajappa, extensive studies were made in the proton73 and 13C NMR74 spectra of enamines and nitroenamines correlating chemical shifts with reactivity. Restricted rotation of the amide bond in N-acylindolines and tetrahydroisoquinolines was investigated in association with Dr M D Nair7577 and Prof G Kartha.78 This resulted in the discovery of allylic A 1, 3 ; interactions in some of the molecules and the synthesis of strained tetracyclic pyridophenanthridines.79 The rest of this section will highlight selected NMR studies related to bioactive heterocycles. 7.1 Applications of 13C NMR spectroscopy to structure elucidation of bioactive heterocycles Thiazole derivatives: Thiazoles show a variety of biological activities, e.g. thiamine, a vitamin with the thiazolium moiety. Among other examples can be mentioned nizatidine antiulcer ; , niridazole antiprotozoal ; and thiabendazole anthelminthic ; . Among.

Zaid Mohseni's family created Afghanistan's leading private media group five years ago. It broadcasts TV to 12 cities, along with the first FM-based commercial radio station and a monthly English-language magazine. Mohseni said a very high illiteracy rate and lack of electricity have impeded wide adoption of the new media, although mobile phones have been a big success.
